Plans For A New Indian Tribe Casino
The Northern Michigan American Indian tribe and Sweetwater Gaming Inc. has announced this week that they have plans to start together a new casino next to the Detroit Metro Airport.
It's definitely not a clear cut case if the casino will actually be build on this location, if at all. The Department of Interior in the United States hasn't allowed a single new Indian casino in the past 15 years. . But in a referendum held in 2003 in Romulus, voters passed the idea of a new casino.
The plans concern a casino and hotel complex of 24-acre that will cost $243 million to build. The Hannahville Indian Community already owns a casino in Michigan's upper peninsula, but is very enthusiastic about this new project.
A spokesperson of the tribe stated that the complex would create 3,300 new jobs and will bring in over $300 million revenue per year, which makes it an almost irresistible deal. The Tribal Chairman Kenneth Meshigaud has faith in the decision of the American Department of Interior and he hopes that they will get a fast approval. Meshigaud feels very confident about the whole casino project. He thinks its an excellent location for a casino complex.
In a press conference in Romulus, 25 miles west of Detroit, Meshigaud said that the community is supporting the casino plans and are looking forward to the needed new jobs
