Connecticut's Attempt To Keep Gambling Revenues Away From The State.
Connecticut's governor and lawmakers seem for some reason to be against the allocation of city money to study the problem gambling issue. The last general study was completed in 1997, and has not been updated since in this state. In addition, there has never been a study of this issue among youth gambling.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell and a majority of legislators are enjoying the flow of gambling money into the state treasury, which has become $9.3 billion since 1982. That includes $3.4 billion from the state's two Indian casinos since 1992. Casino money, so far, in this state, has been used for education, or treatment/ research into problem gambling. The nonprofit Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling tried to gain get updated figures to present to the state politicians. Hotline costs for problem gamblers equal up to $35,000 a year, for players who lost $20,000 in the past year and have debts averaging $19,400.
